Last night Matt was looking through old photos to find some for his new office, and it reminded me that we have been together for 9 1/2 years and married for nearly 5. It was quite humorous to look at us 9 1/2 years ago and us now. We have been through a lot together, and I am happy to say have only gotten closer over the years.
So I thought I would share a few photos from over the years (don’t laugh too hard):
It is official, after 22 years of school Matt will be graduating tomorrow with his Masters degree. I am very proud of him. He has worked very hard for the past three years to earn his Masters of Divinity or MDiv as the seminary folks call it.
We are both very excited and have planned a big graduation party for him and our good friend Steve Hershberger, who is also graduating. We will be celebrating tomorrow, May 3rd, at Glen Miller Park in Richmond, IN Shelter #4 if you would like to stop by.
I attended a writing workshop yesterday, hosted by Travis Poling. It was a lot of fun. I had forgotten how much I enjoy writing and being creative. Travis also did a great job facilitating. We did two exercises: The first was writing prose about a childhood experience with spirituality (it was at the Seminary after all), and the second was writing a poem about where we were from. I was actually pleased with my poem, so I thought I would share it here. Click through to see the poem. Enjoy!
Tomorrow will mark the one year anniversary of the shooting at Virginia Tech. This is an event that affected me in a deep way not only because I am an alumni with close friends still attending the school. For me the event emphasized the cruel nature of our society and how thoughtless words and deeds can cause immeasurable pain in other people’s lives.
Well, after two false alarms it seems we might actually be getting a “real” snow storm. It has been snowing all evening, and it is supposed to continue for most of the night. Of course, the last time the meteorologist said we were supposed to get a big snow we got 1/2 an inch.
Oddly enough I am actually looking forward to some snow. Normally it just annoys me, but this year I am longing for a good snow that I can play and sled in. It seems to snow more often here in the mid-west, but we got bigger, more substantial snow storms back home in Virginia.
I remember getting at least one big snow storm almost every winter growing up in Virginia. My sister and I would put on layer after layer of warm clothes, boots, gloves, and itchy wool hats and spend the whole day outside sledding, making snowmen, and eating snow. Then we would come in and set our wet clothes and boots in front of the wood stove to dry for round two.
Living here in the city, where the closest “sledding hill” is a 10 minute car trip away and the snowplow wipes the streets clean before any really accumulation can build, I am missing my country winters in Virginia.
I recently got a song stuck in my head from way back in the good old days of high school, and so I checked YouTube. Low and behold it was there. I used to hear this song every Friday morning while getting ready for school and listening to the morning show on 96.3 WROV. I honestly don’t know why it popped back into my head, but I thought would share it with everyone
