Technology Today: Meet the Motorola Droid

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

The long awaited day has finally arrived.  Droidmas has finally come.  I am now the proud new owner of a Motorola Droid.  No longer a coveter of my friends’ and family’s smart phones.

I have had my new phone for 2 whole days now and I am feel like I have a good feel for it.  So I will share my first impressions of the phone.  I am sure over time some of these will change, but for now, here’s how I like it. (I LOVE it).

Take that!

During the Super Bowl Dodge had an ad depicting the emasculated miserable men in the United States who are so unhappy in their relationships that they have to drive the Dodge Charger in order to find happiness.  I  can’t begin to describe all the reasons why this particular ad is so annoying and offensive… and thanks to Producer MacKenzie Fegan I don’t have to.

Snow Day

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Hidden Valley DriveI spent a great day today snowed in because we got about 10 inches of snow here in Richmond.  It was a beautiful, wet, dense snow that stuck to everything and made for some amazing photos.

I also started another new knitting project from “One More Skein“.  I am knitting myself a new washcloth using the Pencil Sketch pattern.  I started using one of the knitted washcloths I made for the Co-op sale, and I fell in love.  It is so much nicer than using the store-bought kind, so I am making myself a second.  This way I can actually wash my first washcloth :) .

Poor puppies

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

At the Richmond Fall Festival today, which was awesome,  I saw a couple walking two adorable pit bull puppies and couldn’t resist going over to say hello.  I know you shouldn’t just walk up to strange dogs and start petting them so I asked the owners if it was okay and was met with a response that nearly sent me through the roof.  The couple informed me that they did not want many people petting or touching the dogs because they were training them to be their guard dogs when they got older.

Curtains or wall hanging… you decide

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Matt and I completed a home improvement / decorating project this weekend that we have been planning to do for some time now.  We setup a  curtain system on in our dining room.  We have a sliding glass doors at the back of our house, and while it is beautiful to look out of, at dinner time the light coming in the door is blinding.  So to reduce the  light and create a decorative wall hanging, we put up a curtain system from Ikea.

Community Supported Dinner

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

As you will recall from previous posts,  Matt and I enjoy gardening.  The past two summers we have had amazingly successful gardens that have produced far more food than we could possibly eat ourselves.  However, this summer, with the purchase of a new house, we no longer have a suitable gardening spot.  Our backyard is simply too shady to allow for anything to grow.

So, we were faced with the challenge of finding a way to get fresh vegetables without growing them in our own backyard.  The only two options that seemed worth considering were growing vegetables ourselves in a community garden space or joining a CSA (community supported agriculture) program.

Mysterious “Gift”

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Matt and I picked up a mysterious “gift” from the post office today.  We received a note in our mailbox Friday informing us that there was a parcel at the post office for us to pick up.  Apparently, they had attempted to deliver it to our house, but it had to be signed for.  Both of us were quite surprised because we were not expecting any packages.

… And We’re Back

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Recently some new people have stumbled across my poor neglected blog and commented that they enjoyed reading it, which has given me the urge to write again.  In the past, I blogged about my life, my work, family, technology, and posted humorous videos among other things.  However, I am not sure what form my writings will take this time around.

I don’t play World of Warcraft, but anything good enough for Mr. T. is good enough for me!

Breast cancer awareness

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I wanted to share some tips for promoting breast cancer awareness in your community I found on the National Breast Cancer Awareness website:

  • Contact your local hospital or mammography facilities to find speakers who are experts in the early detection of breast cancer for your events.
  • Partner with a mammography facility to make screening appointments for women while they are attending your event.
  • Contact the Breast Cancer Resource Committee or the National Medical Association for information and tips on reaching African American women.
  • Post information on bulletin boards at local community centers, places of worship, the library, and post office.
  • Exhibit or post materials at the county fair or health fairs, which are popular in the fall.
  • Take advantage of “back-to-school” shopping in August to alert mall shoppers to upcoming activities for October.
  • To reach older women, work through senior centers, senior newspapers, and retirement homes.
