Last night I got a wild hair and did something I rarely do: I Baked.  To be exact, I baked chocolate chip cookies.  We didn’t have any desserts in the house and since I was home alone, I decided to take it upon myself to remedy the situation.  I am happy to say the cookies turned out wonderful.  They are a perfect golden color, full of chocolate chips, and just the right balance between firm but chewy. I am actually eating one right now, and I must say they are delicious.

Now, anyone who knows me well knows that me cooking in general is a big deal, but me cooking something that turns out well is nothing short of a minor miracle. So this really is a blog worthy occasion.

Naturally the actual baking process did not go as smoothly as I had hoped, and there are a few items to add to Becky’s List of Cooking Catastrophes, but the end product was well worth the effort. Since I’m not able to share my cookies with everyone, I’ll share a glimpse into what cooking with Becky actually looks like.  A good laugh is at least as good as a cookie, right?

What Becky cooking really looks like:

  1. Apparently I felt that the recipe called for too much butter, because right off the top I only put in part of the butter the reipe called for.  I left out a full 1/4 cup of butter for no real reason.
  2. I learned quickly that when creaming butter, it is really best to start the mixer at a slow speed.  Otherwise, you end up with projectile butter chunks.  I promise I picked all the cat hair out of the butter after I picked it up off the floor and before I tossed it back in the mixer.
  3. It is also advisable to start the mixer at a slow speed when adding flour.  I am pretty sure I lost close to a 1/4 cup of the flour mixture.  The counter, the mixer, my shirt, my pants, and my arms were all covered in flour.
  4. Make sure you distribute the chocolate chips evenly.  My last batch of cookies definitely contained 3 cookies with no more than 4 chocolate chips a piece.  Those will be Matt’s cookies.
