I am from…Writing workshop
I attended a writing workshop yesterday, hosted by Travis Poling. It was a lot of fun. I had forgotten how much I enjoy writing and being creative. Travis also did a great job facilitating. We did two exercises: The first was writing prose about a childhood experience with spirituality (it was at the Seminary after all), and the second was writing a poem about where we were from. I was actually pleased with my poem, so I thought I would share it here. Click through to see the poem. Enjoy!
I am from
I am from coke breaks in
the afternoon sun. The
smell of the garden fresh
on our hands.
I am from handguns on
Christmas. The sound
of ammunition like church
bells.
I am from if it beeps
dig. The lost treasures
found in the hot midwest
sun.
I am from ice cream after
dinner. Three small scoops, but
all the chocolate syrup your bowl
will hold.
I am from watch out bitch
I’m turning my tomato.
Those painkillers make you say
strange things.
I am from the K & W
cafeteria. Mash potatoes
and macaroni & cheese is
one starch too many.
I am from no, you may not
eat my pig. The cute wet
snout and curly tail of a beloved
pet.
I am from let’s play ee-aws.
The imagination of two young
girls is an amazing thing.
I am from Bob’s Girlfriend,
Matt’s fiance, Steve’s wife.
Being the only girl at boyscout
camp is quite an experience.
I am from hi do you remember
me. That little white lie
sure has paid off.
Where are you from?
