Cat scratch fever…
We got some not so great news from the vet today. Our cat, Token, has some how contracted Bartonella, which is a bacterial disease that can be spread to humans. It is treatable but we will probably have to buy 3 weeks worth of prescription drugs for mr. kitty…not cheap. For a free cat that I rescued from a campground, he has be come awfully expensive in his 6 years:
- $700 for crystals in his urine
- $40 prescription cat food every couple months
- $180 to be de-clawed b/c he wouldn’t let anyone cut them EVER
- $200 to test for Feline HIV/Leukemia and Bartonella testing and antibiotics
To top it all off, if we are not careful, Matt and I could end up with Cat Scratch Fever. Those of you who listen to classic rock will probably recognize the title of the popular Ted Nudget song. Unfortunately, it can be pretty serious and even life threatening so we will have to be extra careful.
Don’t get me wrong though. I love my cat and will undoubtedly pay what ever I it takes to get him healthy again. I just some days wish he cost a little less. Most people don’t pay this much for “pedigreed” cats.
